The FuEL Awards

Mission

Launched in 2011, the FuEL Awards were created to promote entrepreneurship in Canada by identifying forward-thinking role models for youth and illustrating the many benefits of venturing out on one's own.

Prizing

A chance to be named FuEL Entrepreneur of the Year and receive passes to the exclusive PROFIT 200 CEO Summit and GrowthCamp conferences.

The 20 applicants deemed Canada's Future Entrepreneurial Leaders in 2012 will receive:

  • A national accolade that can attract the attention of customers, investors and strategic business partners
  • Profile on the FuEL Awards website and in an extensive editorial package in the December 2012 issue of PROFIT Magazine
  • A one-day business consultation with professionals from KPMG Enterprise
  • A chance to be named FuEL Entrepreneur of the Year and receive passes to the 2013 PROFIT 200 CEO Summit and GrowthCamp, PROFIT’s exclusive conferences for the leaders of Canada’s top growth companies.

Also, the applicant who attracts the most votes from the public will receive the People's Choice Award, and receive a complimentary pass to GrowthCamp, the official conference of the PROFIT HOT 50.

Eligibility

The 2012 FuEL Awards are open to any resident of Canada born in or after 1983 who is the owner and chief executive (or the equivalent) of a business that is:

  1. headquartered and registered in Canada;
  2. currently operating and has significant operations in Canada;
  3. Canadian owned, and
  4. operated independently and is not the subsidiary or division of a larger organization.

Here's how:

CYBF Chairman’s Awards for Best Business

CYBF takes pride in acknowledging the achievements of our entrepreneurs– that’s why we created the CYBF Chairman’s Awards for Best Business. Recognizing excellence in entrepreneurship across Canada, the annual awards program allows successful young business people to vie for top titles and prizes and be named the best in their category. 

CYBF Chairman’s Awards for Best Business are given in each of 5 categories.

The five categories are:

Best Emerging Business: This award will go to a business that demonstrates establishment of a solid customer base and market presence, while experiencing profitability, and is in operation for 1 – 3 years.

Best Expanding Business: This award will go to a business that demonstrates growth in any of the following areas: customer base, market presence, or job creation while experiencing profitability. This recipient will have been operational for more than 3 years.

Best Innovative Business: This award will go to a business which has discovered, developed or refined a new or existing product, service or method which is adopted into practical applications immediately subsequent to its discovery and provides value to the end user.

Best Green Business: This category will go to a business that embodies sustainability, or offers a product or service that provides a clear environmental benefit.

Best Socially-Minded Business: This category will go to a business which recognizes a social issue, and uses their business operations as an avenue to create and organize social change.

Note: CYBF reserves the right to assign your application to one of the 5 categories, noted above, to where they see fit. Applicants may only win in one category.

What’s More: The 5 Best Business Awards winners will then compete for one grand prize of $20,000 (CDN) and the title of National Best Business Award:

Prizing

A chance to win over $22,500* value in prizes!
All Best Business Category winners will receive:

  1. A cash prize valued at $1,000* (CDN) per category! And the chance to compete to the National Best Business Award and an additional $20,000 cash prize* (CDN)
  2. Professional photo shoot
  3. National profiling through media, advertising and social media campaigns
  4. Participate in CYBF’s Global Entrepreneurship Week Canada (GEW) initiatives
  5. A Crystal trophy (to take home to mom)
  6. Be recognized as a CYBF Entrepreneurship Ambassador and build your businesses’ profile

The cash prize portion of the awards package is privately funded by an anonymous third party.

Eligibility

  1. Be a past or present CYBF program recipient
  2. Have had their CYBF start-up financing provided and be matched with their CYBF mentor prior to June 1, 2011
  3. Be in good financial standing with CYBF
  4. Have not previously won a CYBF Chairman’s Award
  5. Complete the CYBF Chairman’s Awards for Best Business Application and agree to the awards terms and conditions
